Effects of N-ethyl-N-nitrosourea(ENU) on BALB/cAnNCrj male mice(2)

Esaki, Kozaburo
Abstract
We have been carrying out the large scale mutagenesis program to develop mutant mice using supermutagen, ENU(N-ethyl-N-nitrourea), and reported the effects of ENU at the dose of 200 and 400 §·/§¸. This experiment was designed to decide the optimal dose to get useful model animal pool. 150 §·/§¸, and 200 §·/§¸, ENU was injected into BALB/cAnNCrj mice at the age of 12 weeks. The lethality, and the sterile period is 12.9%, 11 weeks respectively in the 150 §¶/§· ENU group, and 8.6%, 12 weeks respectively in the 200 §·/§¸, ENU group. The average of litter size and the percent of weanlings is 4.7, 87.4% respectively in the 150 §·/§¸, ENU group, and 4.2, 84% respectively in the 200 §·/§¸, ENU group. In comparison with each group, there are not significant differences, in a sterile period, lethality, litter size, weaning rate. However, because higher dose had more effective mutation rate, we concluded 200 §·/§¸, optimal dose.
